I got this link from Meredith’s sister, Kristin, explaining how improvising requires the ability to essentially “turn off” your prefrontal cortex, which basically rationalizes your thinking. Eventually, people who improvise a lot learn to ignore their prefontal cortex. This helps with the spontaneity and risk-taking that is required to improvise well, but it also leaks into “normal” living. I think I may have been too good at ignoring my prefrontal cortex in my developmental years, haha (this is not saying that i’m any good at improvising, btw.) Anyway, this really explains everything about my inability to do things like making a student teaching portfolio when I feel that it is completely unnecessary. I’ve always said it, but I REALLY don’t have it in me to do thingsĀ that make sense. I can’t really explain… on here anyway.
Anyway, this link is more in depth.
Cool stuff. Thanks Kristin!
